Podcast SummaryThe “ 200-Words to a Community” language project is a 36-month project for preservation of Bodéwadmi Zheshmowen, the native Potawatomi language. It is the effort of the 3-tribe consortium of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, the Nottawasseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi, and the Match-E-Be-Nash-She-Wish (or Gun Lake) Band of Potawatomi Indians, located in southwestern Michigan and northern Indiana.
While the (3) Bands are distinct and independent federally-recognized tribes, they maintain close contact and cooperation because of their common culture as Potawatomi Indians, and have entered into a formal Memorandum of Agreement for this project. This project is made possible through a grant funded by the Administration for Native Americans.
